Mr. Canary

What you have run up against is probably a sendmail server that has
antispamming rules instituted. So what does that mean?

Sendmail has in the past defaulted to allow relaying of mail.
So what is relaying?

Well basically, it allows someone at xxx.com to send email to someone at
yyy.com using zzz.com's mail server.

Now why would a package like sendmail allow someone at xxx.com to use
zzz.com's mail server with zzz.com's permission. Well (this is from a
layman's perspective -- no flames please) the theory was that people used
to have netiquete (did i spell that one right?) and allowing a open system
allowed people to have open systems that were more flexible.

Unfortunately, bulk email spammers have abused this and have stolen
bandwidth from innocent people.

to find out more go to http://www.sendmail.org or
http://www.spam.abuse.net/spam/

Now what is the the fix?

find someone who will process your mail. I am tired because I just brought
home my newborn son ;) but look at what are the differences
(ip/domain/ipforwarding wise) between your dialin users and the main server.

good luck
