I don't understand this right - sorry - but if you open
annotations →tags or categories there is a auto completion:

you only typing 1 or 2 letters

I think it is not so bad ;) and its faster [Ctrl] + [T] and 2 letters
then pushing the mouse.
I use RedNotebook 3 years or longer and I'm very happy with it,
because its fast and not eating my memory.
I use also Zim and Osmo mostly parallel if you need more/other
features ;)
