Well, maybe that's why you are in EDA :-) ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Ray Salemi Sent: Saturday, July 24, 2010 9:34 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: No help in Lowell
Absolutely true. It's always fascinated me that major league attendance is so dependent upon the team's record while minor league attendance is not. And I'm sure they are not really thinking of winning as much as teaching. I will say this about Vitek. He was especially sucky when it came to throwing to first. He was late with his throws or overthrew whenever there was a play other than a simple routine groundball. He made a nice stop on a screamer down the line that was curving away from him, and then threw low to first. That was just one game, but if I were a scout I would have thought twice about him. Nobody cares about their record or the quality of their baseball (except maybe for a few geeks who actually try to score games on their handheld devices). They go to the park for entertainment. 2) I became friends with the Lowell pitching coach several years ago and he told me that the team's performance in single-A has very little to do with the quality of the players. The things they look for in prospects are not necessarily the things we look for in polished players. They look for raw talent that they can mold into players, especially in single A. Watch out for Kolbrin Vitek. You heard it here first. ________________________________ From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> [mailto:[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>] On Behalf Of Ray Salemi Sent: Saturday, July 24, 2010 11:16 AM To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: No help in Lowell I saw the Lowell Spinners play the Vermont Lake Monsters last night at Centennial Field<http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Centennial+Field,+Burlington,+VT&sll=42.327577,-71.426497&sspn=0.008614,0.018861&ie=UTF8&hq=Centennial+Field&hnear=Centennial+Field,+Burlington,+Chittenden,+Vermont+05401&ll=44.481538,-73.187541&spn=0.001039,0.002358&t=h&z=19> in Burlington. It is a GREAT little park. It was Champ bobble-head night, so we couldn't get parking at the park even though we arrived an hour early (I think they have 50 spots). We parked for free down the street a ways. The stands only extend out to first and third base. We sat under a roof a little to the first base side where we kept a careful eye on the right handed batters. The Spinners SUCKED!!! There are not enough exclamation points or font effects to describe how badly they sucked. Every single play was an adventure. Throws from first sailed over the first baseman, pick-off throws from the catcher to a first baseman who was charging a bunt flew into right field, pick-off throws from the pitcher also flew into right field. They fully deserve their 7-28 record. The park was fun, the fans were knowledgable, and if you're in Burlington I recommend grabbing a game.
