BTW, one of the areas where I'll defend Sox ownership is their decision to part ways with Francona. The media knuckleheads keep saying - well, if you REAALLY wanted him you would have picked up the two year option during the season, so you essentially fired him. Henry is correct in saying, the team negotiated terms that allowed them to wait until the end of the year and they were choosing to do so. (Someone wrote they had to do so, but I don't know how that's possible.)
Anyway, I think ownership felt an reevaluation was in order before making a decision, and then The Collapse occured. Then Francona made the decision for them by correctly stating that he'd lost the team. I don't think ownership is being duplicitious at all in this regard.
