Not really complaining about the lack of excitement. I like the idea of
getting a younger, hungrier candidate in there. I don't know why but my
personal favorite is Dave Martinez, the Rays bench coach. But he hasn't
been interviewed yet.

Anyone else see this?

Former Red Sox manager John McNamara
spoke<http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/08/sports/baseball/former-red-sox-manager-john-mcnamara-recalls-final-out-that-wasnt-to-be.html>
to
the New York Times on Tuesday, a day before a retrospective on the 1986
postseason will air on MLB Network.

McNamara defended his decision to leave Bill Buckner in the game in the
10th inning of Game 6 of the World Series vs. the Mets. The Red Sox entered
the bottom of the 10th with a 5-3 lead, and throughout the
postseason McNamara had inserted Dave Stapleton as a defensive replacement
for Buckner in late innings. McNamara, of course, stayed with Buckner in
Game 6, a game that ended with the first baseman's error on Mookie Wilson's
ground ball.

“Buckner was the best first baseman I had,” McNamara told MLB network. "And
Dave Stapleton has taken enough shots at me since that he didn’t get in
that ballgame, but Dave Stapleton’s nickname was Shakey. And you know what
that implies. I didn’t want him playing first base to end that game, and it
was not any sentimental thing that I had for Billy Buck."

McNamara also reveals on the program that Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd was too
drunk to pitch in relief in Game 7 -- Boyd was the scheduled starter for
Game 7 before a postponement allowed McNamara to go with Bruce Hurst -- and
Roger Clemens did ask out of Game 6 after the seventh inning. Clemens has
maintained for 25 years that he wanted to stay in the game.
