They are adding a wildcard team and there will be a one-game playoff between the 2 wild card teams in each league to see who will continue in the playoffs. This is a significant change to the current format where the wild card team is pretty much an equal partner in the playoffs like the division winners. I think I like it because it will add more value to winning the division. Winning a wild card slot becomes a crap shoot on a one game playoff.
