The media aren't going to get on him because he was the guy they were pushing
for! Nick Cafardo, who I usually respect, really
went overboard with his public campaign to hire him. And they are getting
exactly what they wanted, lots of stuff to write about every
day.

I think it was worth a try to send him back out. I'm sure that Cook was pushing
for it. The Sox don't have an off-day until May 24, so I

suspect he didn't want to burn out the bullpen, if he could avoid it, at the
start of a stretch of 20 games in 20 days. But he certainly should

have seen that it wasn't going to work earlier and yanked him.

What a mess they are right now.

Good point about the "mistakes" and experience.  If I recall, he was
specifically hired to avoid this sort of thing.

I'm tired of the mea culpas.  And I'm tired of the fact that the guy never
really seems to be engaged in the game.

Valentine is awful - I'm surprised folks haven't noticed this in the media
(maybe because he was media and they are concerned about their own potential
job market).  He continues to say he's learning by mistakes - really - your
supposedly an overly experience manager and yet you continue to talk about how
you weren't prepared this year.  Then you continue to make 'wrong' decisions
during the game - while the players aren't performing like they should be -
today was a definite reason why Valentine needs to go back into analyst work -
not coaching what on paper is one of the top 3-4 teams in ALL baseball.
