I think there is more to it than the nastiness (thought that is part of
it). I'm looking for a pitcher who respects hist abilities, the game, and
the craftsmanship of excellence. Intimidation is part of the craft--though
not the only part.

I'm reminded of George Will's excellent book, MEN AT WORK, in which he
profiles four men: Tony Larussa (manager), Tony Gwynn (hitter), Cal Ripkin
(fielding), and Orel Hershiser (pitcher). Will uses the book to show that
high level baseball, when played right, is a work, is a craft.

I simply haven't seen a workmanlike respect for the game out of any of our
pitchers. They all remind me of Nuke Laloushe. I see them on a scale from
best to worst:

John Lester
Daniel Bard
Clay Buckholz
Dice-K
John Lackey

I don't have any feel for Felix Dumbront.

But none of these guys is close to being an Orel Hershiser.
