Refractometers are a problem.  You can get them for $85 (no
name):

I'm sure you can spend more at scientific supply houses.

Craig Bingman has pointed out that cheap, inferior refractometers
with plastic prisms are being manufactured in China.  When you
start asking where a particular one was made you don't get any
answers.  You probably get what you pay for, but who knows?

BTW, for what ever reason, North Coast puts one on E-Bay
once every month or two.  I recollect the opening bids are $65
to $70.
