I had the same thing happen to me (at about 4 years too). THe problem
was that my hydrometer was bad (even though I had been soaking it in
vinegar on occasion). The salinity of my tank was way too high.
The lesson learned is that if you are making changes to a tank based on
measurements, you have to make sure that the tool you are doing the
measurements with is functioning correctly.
