I think Ron is right. I know a LFS who had a new guy dump a bunch of
coppersafe into their reef system (6 tanks full of LS, LR and corals). They
had to remove all rock, sand and coral (coral went into a display tank, rock
and sand went into the fish only system). They then did a 100% water change,
then ran copper removing resins to get rid of it. The system is just now
back up, and they have begun stocking again with LR and LS....
Galvin, it is really your call. If you feel like the sand is fine, then go
with it. However, I would not add anymore LS or any LR to the system. You
really are probably throwing money away by doing so. You may have amphipods
and such living, but there is no telling what the copper will do to the
bacteria populations in the LR and LS. To really remedy the situation, do
like the LFS did, take it all out, fill the tank again with new sea water
and run copper remover. Once done, re-stock with some new LS and add some
LR. Then, never use copper again.
That brings me to one other comment. If LS is all you have in the tank for
biological filtration, that could be part of your problem with your ich in
the tank. Personally, I would start it over, and add LR and LS for bio
filtration. That will create a much healthier environment for your fish,
thus helping to keep the sickness away. If you don't start over, at least
add some type of bio filtration to the system, like bioballs in the sump, or
a canister filter or something.

I think Coppersafe is a heavy metal copper and therefore can never
be removed.
