The coral you got is Distichopora (pronounced dis-tee-cop-ora), and it really
isn't an SPS. It is however a filter feeder, usually found in overhangs and
caves in almost total darkness, hence the purple coloring (or blue, orange,
pink) Purple is the most common on the Great Barrier Reef.
Although I have had limited success with this coral, I usually don't
recommend it to anyone with a reef tank that's less than a year old. My
advice to you is to start using (if not already) DT's Phytoplankton...I have
been using and selling this wonderful product for almost two years now, with
great results. I also have most of my "reef" customers on it, and they too
noticed a big difference. And now it's in concentrate form, it's much cheaper.
Try shielding the coral from light, so that Coralline algae doesn't grow
over it and kill it.
