Thanks for the info. I am not new to the hobby though, as I have had my
reef for going on 7 years. It started out as a 75 gallon reef, and now it
is a 125 gallon reef. I have lots of live rock, some live sand, and a CPR
SR6 skimmer. I use no other filtration. I have two 6500k Iwasaki 250 watt
MH's for lighting. I am dosing kalkwasser in all of my make up water which
is added automatically with a small pump and my Neptune Aquacontroller. I
only have one fish (yellow tang) but I have lots of inverts, corals,
hermits, snails, and misc. other denizens. I do not feed the tank
regularly. The Tang feasts on lots of algae, mainly the feather caulerpa
and sometimes the pest hair algae. Everything appears to be thriving. My
White Fairy Toadstool continuously buds! My large green Brain is getting
bigger all the time. The reef has indeed taken on a life of its own. The
only problem is this damned hair algae. I have been using a DI filter on
all of my make up water, but that is not doing the job. I am planning on
purchasing a better RO/DI filter soon. I wanted a UV unit to help out on
occasion. I know it is an indiscriminate killer as it breaks down DNA. I'm
just looking for something to help get rid of the hair algae which is
choking everything in the tank. Is anyone using UV on their reef even on
occasion? Any other ideas to help get rid of hair algae? TIA

> Craig, puttin a UV on a reef tank is a real (amateur) mistake. Your
plankton

all
