Wouldn't that be a little too much lighting if the reef (55 gallon) was
going to be mixed...lps and sps???

Agree with most, except one thing, two-250 MH 6500K's is NOT TOO MUCH light
and combined with the 110 watt actinics would be GREAT. I run 2-250's on a

inch tall, 50 gallon tank, and yes the SOB is very bright ! BUT, not TOO
bright for SPS and Clams, especially in a deeper tank like a 55. Combine
these with either IceCap Electronic or BlueLine E-ballast from Champion
(less
flicker with the "Eline") and this will help keep your electric bills down.
Obviuously, you would have to put your "deep-water" corals very low in the
tank.
I installed 2-250's on a customer's 92 bow front and it looks great. The LPS
are lower in the water column, and they dig it !
