I have a 3 week old 'work tank'...meaning my boss had an old aquarium and some spare accessories in his garage and one day I casually mentioned I had always liked seahorses, wham bam, next thing I know I've got an aquarium in my office. (Big grin!) Wish I could make him let go of the money that fast, haha!! I got the guys in the shop to build a nice stand out of some scrap metal, and we were up and running. Vance (the boss) is contributing to the tank too, so I do have a mentor. He bought the rock and brought RO water, instant ocean, a protein skimmer, etc, etc from his house. The only thing I had to buy to get started was 40 lbs of aragonite (sp?) So I have a pretty bare aquarium right now. Did I mention uncured live rock? The rock turned whitish the first couple of weeks but now is turning a greenish color the past couple of days. I'm hoping greenish is good. I tested the water Friday and no ammonia but 10 ppm on the nitrate test. I haven't done any other tests yet. Vance brought a couple of crabs and a sea urchin to see how they would do. I put three snails in today. I need to buy or make some sort of lighting system, but there seem to be so many options!! Right now there are two flourescent strip lights, but they are only 20 watts each and one is probably a safety hazard. Teresa > Hi, Teresa.
