I have noticed after some times that there are little white snails
along the top of my 6"Derasa. The clam has about 3/4" extention.
It is gorgeous and has shown no sign of any stress. I think I should be
concerned though. Should I remove them? If so how?
Thanks
Tom

I would remove them.. I believe they are harmful to clams.. use a pair of
tweezers or somthing.. but get them out of there..

Yes. Best to remove them. Can't remember what they are colled but they are
probably parasites on the clam.

I have a 3 week old 'work tank'...meaning my boss had an old aquarium and
some spare accessories in his garage and one day I casually mentioned I had
always liked seahorses, wham bam, next thing I know I've got an aquarium in
my office. (Big grin!) Wish I could make him let go of the money that fast,
haha!! I got the guys in the shop to build a nice stand out of some scrap
metal, and we were up and running. Vance (the boss) is contributing to the
tank too, so I do have a mentor. He bought the rock and brought RO water,
instant ocean, a protein skimmer, etc, etc from his house. The only thing I
had to buy to get started was 40 lbs of aragonite (sp?) So I have a pretty
bare aquarium right now. Did I mention uncured live rock? The rock turned
whitish the first couple of weeks but now is turning a greenish color the
past couple of days. I'm hoping greenish is good. I tested the water
Friday and no ammonia but 10 ppm on the nitrate test. I haven't done any
other tests yet. Vance brought a couple of crabs and a sea urchin to see
how they would do. I put three snails in today. I need to buy or make some
sort of lighting system, but there seem to be so many options!! Right now
there are two flourescent strip lights, but they are only 20 watts each and
one is probably a safety hazard.

Well from this point. You need to decide if what you want is a seahorse tank
or a reef tank. As they are two completely different things. Mainly because
seahorses like a slow quiet tank.. low waterflow.. and a reef tank requires
some pretty decent flow. Other then that it sounds good. Although sea
urchins
have a tendancy to eat coraline alagae. Another thing to consider is sea
horses like branchy things to wrap their tails around. I am not into sea
horses so dont know that much.. YOu might want to check out
www.seahorse.org... but it might be www.seahorses.org lots of great info
there.

Subject: Reefers Question
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi All!
I've been trying to get some questions answered on a power head pump that
Reefers has on their web site under (others) M4500 number. I've sent 3
e-mails with no response! Are they A) Out of business? B) Have so much
business they don't need mine? C) Just don't care? D) Stupid?
Has anyone ever made a purchase from this outfit? Seems like a poor way to
run the railroad!!
Jeff
Ps I promised reefers.tv that if I didn't here from them I would post their
lack of business quality and poor treatment of new customers to this site,
and I always keep my promises!!

I have always had great service from Premium Aquatics. You may want to try
them. Jason is a great person to deal with! FWIW

HI Tom,
Get them 0ut, they will kill the clam. A six line wrasse or a leapord wrasse
will eat them and save you the work, without stressing the clam.
