thanks Shane,I added 12 drops to the color
change. That gave me a result of 120 ppm.If with your advice I multiply the drops
by 2 then that would be 2.4 meq/l,is this right?
As for calcium am waiting for my refills to
arrive, what info can you give on the kit by hagen?Bought this in the
meantime, mind you the reults were the same as with my other test kit before I
ran out. When I have a hunch a reading is off I double check it against another
kit,The problem is that I am now out of refills and relying solely on
hagen.
thanks
Dan

dan i originally thought the same about the hagen kit. i ended up
phoning hagen cuz my lfs couldn't help me and the head chemist was quite
helpful. i am very pleased now having used the kit for over a
year. the colour scales and instructions are pretty poor, but other than
that.
the KH test just multiply the number of drops by two and that gives
your alk in meq/l -- i never use the mg/l but could check if need be, how many
drops before you hit the titration point from blue to yellow (such that when
you swirl it it doesn't revert to blue)?
if you use the hagen calcium test i could offer a few useful bits of info.
let me know.

Shane the reading I have is in mg/l which is the same as ppm.so if I had a
reading of 120 actually it should be 240,is this correct? >As for
Canadian you are right.Yes this is a hagen test kit.I know it is crap, waiting
for other kit being ordered.Funny thing is when you need a good test kit
fast,all stores are out... >thanks >Dan > ----- Original

Digest for 02 May 2001 > > > dan - it looks like you are
canadian and so may be using hagen test kit. if so the easy thing to do when
doing the KH test is multiply your drops by two -- this gives you a value in
meq/l which is a more common unit for alk. is your alk actually in ppm or is
it mg/l? > > shane m. > > > >

am a bit confused. My test kit is for KH.The given result is read in mg/l or
ppm.As for instance my alc reading is 120 ppm or mg/l, where do I go from here
to get meq/l ? > >Why different readings?? Some are european I

you want to convert meq/l to dkh multiply by 2.8 as for the increase in alk
you can use baking soda(very small amount) to raise the alk but eventually you
will have to get a two part calcium additive like esv b-ionic or you will have
to get a calcium reactor. Joe > > > > > >

to 3.2 minimum. Alk and Cal work opposite of each other, alk low = high cal.,
high alk=low cal. your medium is 3.2 minimum Good Luck Joe > > >
