I have always been led to believe that simliar body shapes and colors can
upset tangs. Is this not true ? I've actually seen it first hand. In my 120
I had a purple tang and when I introduces a majestic angel the tang was not
too happy with the (I thought) purple on the majestic.
Come to think of it, the purple was not happy when I introduced anything
however !!

Indeed... Zebrsoma tangs ( scopas, yellow's, desjardins, xanthurum, etc
etc etc ) have all of them similar body shapes and probably they'll
fight off. They don't fight because they have similar body shapes,
rather they have similar feeding habits, ie, they compete for the same
food type, therefore the agression.
It's possible though to introduce them, but take the scopas out in the
sump for a couple of days, re-arrange the rockwork a bit ( for breaking
the established territories of the scopas ) , then bring the yellow home
and at night, when the lights are off , introduce the tangs at the same
time in the main tank.
I currently keep a Zebrasoma Xanthurum ( purple tang ) , Zebrasoma
Desjardin ( sailfin tang ) , Acanthrus Sohal ( red sea tang ) and a Naso
Literatus ( double tail tang ) in a 180g tank with no major problems. Of
course, some now and then, some tang chases another, but nothing
special, they usually get along in a nice schoal, except for the Sohal,
who's in charge and roams freely in the tank.

They have different (somewhat) body shaps and are a different color.
However in my experience both yellow's and purple's can be down right
mean to other tangs. It will probably depend on the individual.

Currently, I have a scopas tang in my reef. He is fine and does his own
thing. He has had other tangs added off and on, and he seems to tolerate
them, and actually begins hanging out with them over a short period of
time. Right now, he is the only tang in the tank. As some of you may
remember, I have been battling caluerpa in my tank for over a year now,
and the battle still continues. It was recommended by the list, and by a
reputable LFS that I try a yellow tang. My question is, will a yellow
tang and scopas tang get along or is the similar body shape just a
invite for death??
