I have been using Kalkwasser for years now. I use it to add calcium and
maintain pH. It works very well for me. I have a 125 gallon reed tank.
100% of my top off water is Kalkwasser. Without knowing what your pH was
before you started dripping Kalkwasser, there is no way of knowing what
exactly is happening. I suspect that your pH was low before you started
dripping Kalk. If that is the case, dripping Kalk. is just going to help
bring up your pH. Another very important factor in maintaining the correct
pH is making sure you have plenty of water to air contact to vent off CO2
which will build up and produce carbonic acid thus dropping your pH. That
is part of the reason why I run a totally open top tank. Kalk. is very
basic, so dripping it will not raise your pH. FWIW
