SHANE, YOU�RE TOTALLY RIGHT, even if you go to www.flyingfishexpress.com they sell them under the name of fire scallop, not clams. I�ll tell my lfs owner just what you said. I won�t introduce one to my tank. He also sells some variety of tridacna but it is not purple but pink or human skin color, and he sells it for 130 dollars!!!!!!! that�s way too much!!. Speaking of another matter, i bought today a Sera�s additive called MarineVit that has strontium, iodine, and other 2 elements (i think molibdenum) which claims to aid a lot algae and corals. It was 7 dollars and will only be enough for 2 doses!!! so i want your advice in whether i should add the indicated dosage now (remember i added 8 pounds of salt in order to have my salinity up to 1.023 so I think the water has now all the trace elements) or wait and add the dosage in one or 2 weeks, or maybe use 1/4 of the dosage in 2 weeks. Anyway, when adding the supplement should I turn off the protein skimmer and take out the carbon? Thanks

They do not do well in reef tanks. They come from cooler waters, and live in high sediment, murky zones. They are HEAVY filter feeders, thus need a constant food supply from your water column, which means food overload on your tank. Not only that, they tend to "blow" themselves all over the tank, and usually jam themselves under a rock in your reef that you cant get them out from under, where they die even more quickly. Dont get one, and tell your LFS shame on them (if they are carrying them).
