Im
not suggesting to use a power head to run an airstone. Instead of using an
airstone it is better to use a power head with a venturi valve to inject fine
bubbles to a skimmer and get rid of those damn airstones. The people that uses a
power head injects the air from the bottom of the skimmer, so the venturi valve
is at the bottom of the skimmer, not 5 feet above it.
-----Original Message-----I already have a good setup with a strong air pump, but I'm intrigued by the idea of using a power head. How can you use a venturi valve 5 feet above where you want the bubbles and how does it drive an airstone?

I would recommend you to buy a big powerhead and adapt it to the ps installing a venturi valve. Ive seen many people doing it and it works great, just like in any power head "powered" ps.
By the way i dont know how does peppermint shrimps looks, but i guess I surely can since they sell almost any shrimp in here.

- Thanks Marco !
- I had an Optima and works well, but it presents the problems youre talking about.
- I heard good things about the Tetra luft pump, but I dont know if it is on the market or is descontinued.
- That is the reason to get some opinions of other cheaper but strong air pumps to power a CC skimmer.
- By the way Marco, can you get peppermint shrimps with your LFS?
- Thanks !!

- I would recommend a maxima from hagen, but they soon lowers their
- efficiency because the wooden air difusers get clogged as they work,
- making it harder to pump air and burning the diafragm.
