I�m not suggesting to use a power head to run an airstone. Instead of using an airstone it is better to use a power head with a venturi valve to inject fine bubbles to a skimmer and get rid of those damn airstones. The people that uses a power head injects the air from the bottom of the skimmer, so the venturi valve is at the bottom of the skimmer, not 5 feet above it.

I already have a good setup with a strong air pump, but I'm intrigued by the idea of using a power head. How can you use a venturi valve 5 feet above where you want the bubbles and how does it drive an airstone?

I had an Optima and works well, but it presents the problems you�re talking about.

I heard good things about the Tetra luft pump, but I don�t know if it is on the market or is descontinued.

That is the reason to get some opinions of other cheaper but strong air pumps to power a CC skimmer.

By the way Marco, can you get peppermint shrimps with your LFS?

efficiency because the wooden air difusers get clogged as they work,
