There was this very busy development consultant working for donors like World Bank. Always with his laptop and flying around. One day he came to Ghana. He met the community and asked "Do you want to be rich? Yes, yes, the community shouted back. The consultant shouted back, "There is this magic plant, once it grows into a tree and give fruits, you will be rich as all the MNCs will be after you for this product. The community shouted back "Give this tree, now, Give this tree, now". The consultant said that he had not brought a sample as he arrived after a conference in Copenhagen. He needs now to go to Tanzania, Israel, London, New Delhi. Beijing etc and would be back in 10 days with the saplings. To save in lead time, he asked the community to clear their land and prepare for planting these saplings. In 10 days, the consultant returned. He met the community and asked "Have you cleared your land?" Yes, the community shouted back. "Good this is the first step towards your prosperity", replied the consultant. The community shouted "Show this magic plant, show this magic plant". So with great fanfare, he lifted the covers of the sapling plant and waved that sapling to the community" Suddenly, there was pin drop silence. The community stared in shock disbelief. The consultant perplexed at this reaction, ask what happened? The community replied - That was the plant we cleared from our field - Cocoa!
