StackOverflowError in RE.matchNodes() with 1614 bytes

Hello Regexp team,

I found an error in RE.java version 1.13 (also in version 1.2).
The test code is trivial:

  {
    RE re = null;
    try
    {
      re = new RE(".*");

      byte[] bytes = new byte[1613]; // 1613 is OK; 1614 StackOverflowError
    
      // AAAAAAAAAAAAAA.....AZ
      for (int i=0; i<bytes.length; ++i)
      {
        bytes[i] = 'A';
      }
      bytes[bytes.length-1] = 'Z';
    
      String string = new String(bytes);
    
      System.out.println(">" + string + "\nmatch: " + re.match(string));
    }
    catch (RESyntaxException e)
    {
      e.printStackTrace();
    }
  }
}

With 1613 bytes the output is:
>AAAAAAAAAAAAAA.....AZ
match: true

But with 1614 bytes it looks like (RE.java,v 1.13 2003/06/02 02:18:41
