AIPS is a set of libraries and tools to aid researchers in the fast
development of new image processing algorithms and tools. It is specifically
designed to provide a consistent interface to the vast number of image
processing libraries in the field.
The primary goal of aips is to implement several adaptors to common image
processing, computer vision and visualization libraries and to encapsule
these libraries so that interoperability is guaranteed. This factor should
aid the researcher in the rapid development of new image processing
algorithms or even professional applications. Some basic approaches for
distributed computations should also be developed.
In addition, some tools should be provided to aid the developer and the user
in day-to-day image processing tasks. The need for this is especially given
in the field of higher dimensional image processing research.
The project is currently in the alpha stage. Basic data structures are
already implemented and documented, as are many alpha-stage tools and
additional libraries.
