Given the nature of this proposed
Gna! project, I would normally release
the patches under the same licensing
terms as the original projects
themselves (which would only be
free/libre software with licensing
that is compatible with this web
site's policy).
Description:

Name: cl-patches
Title: Charles Levert's "-cl" patches to various softwares
I often write patches for existing free
software by other authors.
Sometimes, the software in
question only has a web site and a
downloading area, but no mailing
list, and no publicly accessible
bugzilla/savanne/sourceforge-type
place to submit patches. I therefore
send the patches to the author who can
take much time to respond and follow
up on them.
I would like to have a specific place
to publish these patches for public
review and consumption, until and if
they are integrated in the official
release. I explicitly do not wish
to create one space (such as a Gna!
project) for each of those software
projects for which I submit patches
because: a) I do not want to give the
impression of a fork or of an hostile
takeover of the software project; b) I
create such patches on an ad-hoc basis
when there is a need for one specific
version of the targeted software.
I would still contact the author of
the targeted software to submit each
patch and try to have it merge in the
official code base.
This wouldn't be for software with
its own publicly accessible patch
submission system.
I know this is somewhat different from
the typical Gna! project proposal, but
I believe it still very much follows
the spirit of the Gna! web site.
I have a such a production-ready
66889-octet patch right now for which
I am looking for a hosting place.
I have already contacted the author of
the original project, as I always do,
with a previous version of the patch
and have not received feedback yet
for four months (and no new official
releases, beta or otherwise, have been
made since).
Other Software Required:
------------------------
The software which is targeted by
each patch.
Patches need the GNU patch program to
be applied, obviously.
