==== Description: ====
µiX is an experimental operating system personality for the L4.X2
microkernel specification, the L4Ka::Pistachio implementation to be specific.
It consists of a root task, a set of system services and a library that uses
these to provide implementations of kernel interfaces common to UNIX-like
operating systems. µiX's design aims to be as conservative as is feasible
while maintaining separation of concerns; no ground-breaking research is
intended.
At this moment, µiX is close to an interesting 0.1 release. Its main home
page is at http://muix.ath.cx, and sources can be downloaded with git at
git://muix.ath.cx/git/muix-trunk.git, or inspected using the gitweb interface
at http://muix.ath.cx/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=muix-trunk.git;a=summary .
µiX can currently be booted either using the qemu emulator, or on an actual
x86 computer from e.g. a memory stick (though doing this on a non-dummy
system is likely a very bad idea).
The L4Ka::Pistachio microkernel is licensed under a two-clause BSD license.
µiX is licensed under GPLv3-or-later, with sections of the code base being
licensed under compatible free software schemes (GPLv2-or-later, zlib
license, two-clause BSD license).
==== Other Software Required: ====
µiX depends on the L4Ka::Pistachio microkernel to run. To construct a
bootable disk image, the grub bootloader and the genext2fs and mkcramfs file
system utilities are required.
