You have been subscribed to a public bug: The boot process breaks randomly, mostly before getty is started. Lxdm and X are starting, but the rest of the boot process is cut off. Getty, smartd, powernowd and hddtemp are missing. Unfortunately also rc.local does only start at random times. In contrast /etc/xdg/autostart is working, but this is not part of the init process anyway.
This is a completely customised Ubuntu. I built a base system with debootstrap and installed the rest with the attached script. This way, you should get my package constellation. Unfortunately the guide on https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/installation-guide/i386/linux-upgrade.html is a little bit outdated. At the point, where you have to do 'chroot /path/to/installation-dir/ /bin/bash', you have to look for a system, which can actually do this without an exec file format error. I did no great tests, but on Ubuntu, grml and Knoppix live CDs it is not working. On Gentoo it works. Just tell me, what you need. ** Affects: null Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid -- The boot process breaks randomly at some point, although X starts https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/579689 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Registry Administrators, which is the registrant for NULL Project. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~registry Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~registry More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
