More than likely the crash left the database in a bad state. First, do you have any information about the crash itself? Anything you might have would be useful.
As for getting Shotwell to start, the easy, ugly thing would be to blow away your database and start over. Removing ~/.shotwell will do this. I would very much like to see your database, however, so I can figure out why this is happening and what we can do to prevent it in the future.
