Okay, if you're tired of waiting, download and install http://people.canonical.com/~diwic/temp/alsa-intel-hda-diwic- dkms_1.0.23.diwic_all.deb , reboot and test - it contains the latest snapshot as well. After successful installation, "modprobe snd-hda- codec-realtek" should say something with "/updates/dkms" in it.
