I agree we should have an 'upgrade' command or some other schema update tool to properly fix this, but until this is ready, I think we should accept the proposed patch as a temporary fix. We might want to have the patch add in an annoying "network model is missing" message and give instructions on how to upgrade, but I don't think we should just blow up as it does now.
