According to the GNOME Bug: "The 'about-me' dialog doesn't transfer the user environment variables to the spawned 'passwd' (it transfers a void environment). The PAM keyring module therefore can not connect to GNOME Keyring." There's also an attached patch, but I don't know whether this went into the current release, yet (didn't have a chance to test).
