It is with great sadness that I inform you that yesterday evening we lost a great friend and colleague in Andrew M. Isserman. Andy apparently collapsed after a pick-up basketball game, and was never revived. Andy was an exceptional scholar and inspirational mentor, and his influence on planning and regional science would be difficult to overstate. Among so many other accomplishments, he received awards and recognitions from the American Planning Association, American Statistical Association, National Council for Geographic Education, the Southern Regional Science Association, and the Regional Science Association International. He was President of the North American Regional Science Council and of the Southern Regional Science Association. He was Director of the Regional Research Institute from 1985 - 1997. Sincerely, Randy Jackson ============= MEMORIAL SERVICE Professor Andrew Mark Isserman Professor Isserman died late in the evening on November 4th after suffering a massive heart attack while playing basketball with colleagues. The memorial service for Professor Isserman will be held on Monday, November 8, 1:30 p.m., at Sinai Temple, 3104 W. Windsor Road, Champaign (217.352.8140). Sinai Temple has no sign. Please go west on Windsor Road past Duncan; it is on the north side of the street, just past an office development. Look for a berm with evergreens; the parking lot entrance is on the west side of the property. If the lot in the front appears to be filled, you should continue on the west entrance drive to the rear of the building, where parking in the grass is permitted. Following the memorial service, you may also attend the grave site ceremony at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 1211 W. Pennsylvania, Urbana. In Jewish tradition, the family will be sitting shiva at their home, 3604 S. Vine Street, Urbana, at 5:00 pm. (The neighborhood is Yankee Ridge, south of Windsor Road. Take the entrance street all the way through the neighborhood to S. Vine Street. The home is to the south/right, on the east side of the street.)
