OBITUARY: Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus James C. Hite James C. Hite, Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus of agricultural economics and retired Senior Fellow of the Strom Thurmond Institute, died Monday at a hospice near his home in Tennessee. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Fall Branch Chapel, 1747 Highway 93, Fall Branch, Tenn. Services will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rock Springs Methodist Church, 227 Church View Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. Hite received a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from Clemson in 1963 and a master's in history from Emory University the next year. He earned his Ph.D. in applied economics from Clemson in 1966. He was a member of the Clemson faculty 31 years until his retirement in 1998. He authored or co-authored four books and more than 100 research papers and monographs. Aside from scholarly activities, Hite was an influential policy analyst in the state of South Carolina, working in the areas of state and local taxes and budgets, natural resource policy and local economic development.
