Tim I'm very excited to announce the posting of a position for a 12-month, tenure track, Assistant Professor in Community Economic Development, 70% extension/30% research, in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at the University of Idaho. I have attached the position description, with information on how to apply, if you would please inform anyone you know of this opportunity who might be interested in this position, including Ph.D. students in your department who are near completion in their program. While we just missed the opportunity to advertise in time for the ASSA meetings, we are excited to recruit applicants who look forward to opportunities afforded by this position. AERS has 18 faculty, well distributed across all ranks, including award-winning teachers, researchers and extension specialists, housed at the main campus in Moscow as well as at the Caldwell, Twin Falls, and Idaho Falls research and extension centers and the UI Boise Center. Areas of specialty include international trade, risk management, water resource management, productivity analysis, rangeland management, immigration, fisheries and seafood, natural resource sociology, community economic development, climate change, strategic business management, and invasive and endangered species. Several faculty are involved in interdisciplinary research teams on large projects funded by major grant programs addressing such important issues as effects of climate change on agricultural productivity, impacts of diseases and genetic improvements on potato production and value, and rangeland management practices on water and wild land quality. AERS is houses the Social Science Research Unit on campus, a fee-for-service unit that conducts surveys for primary data collection for a variety of users across the state and region. The Community Economic Development Extension program is one of critical importance to the department and State, and we seek an individual who will develop a research-based extension program, including (but not limited to) areas of emphasis such as amenity and natural resource-based activities, food and value-chain systems, local public finance, infrastructure development, markets, and rural entrepreneurship. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the overall UI Extension efforts within the Community Development program through effective collaborative efforts with state specialists and county faculty within the Community Development Team located throughout the state. A PhD in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Natural Resource Economics or a related field with a specialization in community and/or regional economic development is expected by start of employment. Strong competency in economic theory and quantitative methods is also required.
