Job Summary:

The Rural Entrepreneurship Specialist will be part of a talented team of
researchers, specialists, and educators focused on research and educational
programming development and delivery in community economic development. With
over 50 years of working with Wisconsin communities, the Community Economic
Development (CED) program engages stakeholders in building the capacity of our
partners and performing research to identify best practices and discover new or
emerging community economic development strategies.

The Rural Entrepreneurship Specialist will be expected to provide leadership in
developing and delivering targeted business development assistance and helping
strengthen community support for entrepreneurs as part of a statewide effort
called the Rural Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Initiative (RWEI). Specific
expectations include:

- Establishing a cohort model program for strategic business development
assistance directed towards underserved, rural entrepreneurs including people
of color, women, immigrants, rural and remote communities, early-stage
entrepreneurs and solopreneurs, and/or sector-specific businesses (e.g.,
childcare, food and farm-based).

- Developing and delivering new workshops and experiences that help
entrepreneurs build relationships, identify mentors, access government or
private sector resources, and develop skills essential to start and grow a
young business in the modern rural economy.

- Supporting existing educational programming and research efforts related to
rural entrepreneurship (e.g., Homegrown, Maximizing Business Success, and Law &
Entrepreneurship Clinic, EDA University Center).

- Developing and delivering educational outreach and research materials through
select reports and presentations to statewide partners.

- Creating and maintaining effective local, regional, university and state
partnerships that further the development and delivery of Extension educational
programs in entrepreneurship.

- Serving as part of the central leadership team responsible for developing and
organizing an annual Connecting Entrepreneurial Communities Conference in
Wisconsin.
