Though I'm not as familiar with all the various Howard characters as are
others, it is a common belief that Howard's writing improved as time went
on.  And the Conan stories were written in the latter part of Howard's
career.
    On the other hand, just because Beethoven's 9th is his greatest
symphony, it doesn't follow that his 3rd or 5th are not worthwhile.
