I will switch to the new branch as you proposed to avoid clashes if we
both work on the same file in different parts of the code.

For what concerns replacing generic_fns.intensities with
generic_fns.spectrum, I propose that you make this change as soon as
possible. When this is done, I'll continue working on the code.
