Hi, Meeting minutes from Qt 5.1 release team meeting 06.05.2013:
- Installers are available but there seems to be some problems in some of those o Windows packages missed icu dll files (UPDATE 8.5: Fixed) o Android Linux 64bit installer not working (UPDATE 8.5: works now) o Android Windows-32bit installer might not get into beta1 - CI was not working for a few days so we are still waiting for the latest fixes to get into release packages o UPDATE 8.5: qt5.git now updated & builds ongoing. There should be new installers ready for testing tomorrow - Aim is to get remaining critical fixes in for packages tomorrow and if no critical issues found possible beta1 release day this Wednesday in a happy day scenario o UPDATE 8.5: Happy day scenario didn't happen -> plan is to get beta1 release out Tue 14.05.2013 - Next meeting 13.05.2013 16:00 CET IRC log below Br, Jani <iieklund> kkoehne: ramotyka: sahumada: thiago_: fkleint: ZapB: tronical: ping <sahumada|home> iieklund: pong <ZapB> iieklund: pong <fkleint> iieklund: pong <kkoehne> iieklund: pong <thiago_> iieklund: pong <iieklund> I'm substituting akseli&jani today * thiago_ is now known as thiago <iieklund> is tronical at office today? <iieklund> maybe we can start anyway <iieklund> Agenda proposal: <iieklund> * 5.1 installer \ packaging status (including CI system & are latest changes in) <iieklund> * Qt5.1.0-beta1 release schedule <iieklund> * Missing examples -status <iieklund> * Open errors from https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-30688, <iieklund> * Other topics we should have in agenda? <iieklund> * Next meeting? <iieklund> any additions to above? <ZapB> no <iieklund> ok <iieklund> I'll start with installer/packaging status <fkleint> I guess not, basically there is a huge pile of changes waiting to get into 5.1 now, including regression fixes and we need t oget the CI working again <fkleint> and empty the pile before anthing else <iieklund> yes, I'll first go through the current installer status and ci after that <iieklund> there are installers available, but some issues in current ones <iieklund> silent bug in creator build, some Windows packages missed icu dll files <iieklund> this is fixed now and should be effective in packages tomorrow <iieklund> this caused the creator to stop working <iieklund> Android Linux-32bit installer works ok, Linux-64bit installer should be ok tomorrow <iieklund> Android Windows-32bit installer might not get into beta1, but trying to get it finished this week <thiago> did we get the SQL plugins? <iieklund> that is still pending in gerrit: sahumada? <sahumada|home> thiago: not yet .. we could get PostgreSQL on Linux .. <sahumada|home> it fails on Windows 64 bit though <sahumada|home> Mac already has the PostgreSQL plugin <fkleint> Oh, right there is only sQlite/ODBC on Windows <fkleint> Should we have MySQL as well? <thiago> how about MySQL? <sahumada|home> havent checked MySQL yet .. I was going to do that after PostgreSQL <sahumada|home> I guess for Linux it should be pretty easy to add <iieklund> about android still, the android installers contain armv7 and x86 targets <iieklund> armv5 compilation not succeeding yet, change is in gerrit but fails in ci atm <iieklund> other installers are available as well <iieklund> so any feedback from the packages is welcome <iieklund> any questions about installers? <kkoehne> iieklund: Would it still be okay to switch MiNGW version after the beta is out? Cause we right now still have mingw 4.7 <iieklund> yes <iieklund> but well before rc1 <iieklund> we can check that after we get beta1 out <kkoehne> iieklund: Okay, so next week latest. <iieklund> btw. what is the status with mingw4.8 ? <kkoehne> iieklund: THe issue with the CI system was a deploy problem (apparently the toolchain wasn't deployed completely by the puppet) <iieklund> kkoehne: ok so nothing wrong in the tool chain itself? <kkoehne> iieklund: I don't think so <iieklund> ok <thiago> I'd rather we do all packaging changes for beta1 <thiago> what's holding the mingw update? <thiago> oh, I'm slow today <thiago> thanks :-) <iieklund> thiago: all packaging changes can not be done for beta <kkoehne> thiago: Just someone doing the change, and risking that we'll break builds all over again ;) <iieklund> for e.g. installer-framework update <iieklund> and yes, icu version updated into 5..1.1 <iieklund> 5.1.1 <thiago> right, but if we could, we should do it for the beta :-) <iieklund> any other questions about installers / packages? <iieklund> CI next? <iieklund> sahumada|home? <sahumada|home> ? * steveire has quit (Ping timeout: 272 seconds) <iieklund> sahumada|home: do you have latest info from ci? <sahumada|home> iieklund: not really .. all I know is that Linpro is working on some DNS changes that should unblock the CI <iieklund> ok <thiago> Linpro is not in the critical path <sahumada|home> iieklund: there is another problem with tst_qhostinfo .. but I think that's just an unstable failure <thiago> it can't be an unstable failure if *all* the tests failed reliably <thiago> this is an operational thing, let's skip it <thiago> what's the long-term CI status for 5.1? <iieklund> ci was not working for a few days so we are still waiting for the latest fixes to get into release packages <thiago> someone was complaining 8 hours ago that the CI hadn't updated qt5.git for weeks <iieklund> roughly 100 changes since last wednesday <sahumada|home> yes.. around 100 changes waiting in qt5.git <iieklund> it was updated last wednesday <thiago> ok, so the report was incorrect, thanks <thiago> glad to know :-) <iieklund> there are doc fixes pending that we want into beta <kkoehne> Also some quite important fixes for mac (I heard). <sahumada|home> these are the pending changes https://codereview.qt-project.org/55451 <kkoehne> -> crash fixes. * lqi ([email protected]) has joined #qt-releases <fkleint> yes, example structure and WebKit2/WinDesktop OpenGL fix would also be very much appreciated * fregl has quit (Quit: Konversation terminated!) <fkleint> QTBUG-30912 / QTBUG-30290 basically <iieklund> fkleint: is that in gerrit? <fkleint> they are submitted actually <fkleint> I think this is a matter of qt5.git <iieklund> fkleint: so if ci updated qt5.git next night we would get that fix in packages tomorrow <fkleint> ;-) <iieklund> ok, is there anything else about ci? <thiago> just the operational issues, not a subject for this meeting <iieklund> ok <iieklund> * Qt5.1.0-beta1 release schedule <fkleint> there are a few widget regression fixes in gerrit..but at a pinch they can wait after the beta.. <iieklund> ok <iieklund> aim is to get remaining critical fixes in for packages tomorrow <iieklund> if no critical issues found possible beta1 release day this wednesday in a happy day scenario <iieklund> but it depends pretty much about ci <thiago> :-) <iieklund> and what is the test status based on packages tomorrow <thiago> we do have a major issue that the draw helpers are leaking optimised code outside the checked regions <thiago> but that's just a P1 like any other <fkleint> I am not sure what the current status of Mac and widget regressions is and whether it would be better to postpone <iieklund> thiago: ok....bug number? <fkleint> otherwise, users might be disappointed <iieklund> thiage: is that linked to 5.1.0 meta task list? <iieklund> thiago: is that linked to 5.1.0 meta task list? <kkoehne> thiago: Could that incidentally lead to crashes in _strcmP_sse42 when loading plugins? <thiago> kkoehne: no <kkoehne> thiago: :( * tuukkat (Adium@nat/digia/x-akvibqoqmczzekcu) has left #qt-releases <thiago> iieklund: I'll check <iieklund> thiago: thanks <iieklund> plan is to delay release builds next night a bit so that we get the qt5.git updated before that <iieklund> there is a big bunch of fixes waiting so some of the critical ones should be fixed listed in the meta task list <iieklund> anything to ask about the beta release schedule? <fkleint> Should we postpone or not given that users might be disappointed not to see widgets regression/Mac stuff fixed in the beta packlages due to CI hickups <fkleint> ? <thiago> if it's brown-paper-bag material, yes <iieklund> can we live with those as known issue and mark them to be fixed in rc1 <thiago> who can make that decision? <ZapB> I would suggest postponing if they are serious regressions <iieklund> which is close as well <iieklund> what is the case? crash? <fkleint> On Mac I am not sure, I hear Qt Creator looks pretty bad <kkoehne> iieklund: On mac there are crashes e.g. in Designer. <fkleint> that one, yes <iieklund> does a fix exist? <kkoehne> iieklund: yes, reportedly fixed in qtbase.git/stable since a week or so. <iieklund> fkleint: "due to CI hickups" ? <fkleint> or complete fail <thiago> kkoehne: send the backtrace of those plugin fails to me <iieklund> so the fix is in qtbase.git but not in qt5.git? <fkleint> hasn't really been integrating for a week or so <iieklund> fkleint: ^ ? <fkleint> I don't have an overview what depends on qt5.git and what is still pending in gerrit, admittedly <fkleint> depending on the result of the Bugzy Tuesday, <iieklund> if the fix is in qtbase.git then I would assume we only need the qt5.git update for this ? <fkleint> For the Mac crash yes, probably that requires qt5.git only <iieklund> so in happy day scenario we might have it in packages tomorrow? <fkleint> yes <iieklund> ok, good <fkleint> eike: around, If qt5.git updated to the latest qtbase.git. would Qt Creator look ok on Mac? <iieklund> if the qt5.git update succeeds and we get new installers tomorrow without any brown paper bag issues then it could be beta1 material? Or do we know something else is missing? <fkleint> Hard to tell, really, you would need to ask in Oslo what was fixed for last Bugzy Tuesday, were there any embarrasing showstoppers bascially <iieklund> fkleint: ok, need to check that with jani tomorrow <eike> fkleint: as ok as it goes for now <fkleint> that stuff has not integrated I guess <kkoehne> iieklund: qtserialport documentation showing up. I don't know whether that has been fixed already in git <eike> meaning that quite some serious issues have been fixed <iieklund> kakoehne: ? <kkoehne> iieklund: I mean, documentation for e.g. qtserialport is still not showing up in qtcreator, and I don't know whether qt5.git update woudl fix it. <kkoehne> iieklund: Personally I'd say that would be okay for a beta though. <iieklund> kkoehne: ok...we will see that tomorrow <eike> would be nice if https://codereview.qt-project.org/55292 still made it, but hey, that's broken since 5.0 <kkoehne> iieklund: so ... do we do another short meeting tomorrow afternoon to decide whether we've something to release? <iieklund> kkoehne: that would be reasonable if we get packages during the next night <ZapB> i'll be unavailable (on customer site) tomorrow and wed but please carry on without me <iieklund> kkoehne: I will check this jani tomorrow, if we have beta1 candidate then I'd say we could keep a mtg <kkoehne> iieklund: okay <thiago> a meeting in 24 hours? <iieklund> roughly yes <kkoehne> 23:15 hours, please :) <fkleint> ok <thiago> I really doubt we'll get any CI changes through <iieklund> thiago: well we'll see that tomorrow :) <thiago> ok, let's set up the meeting <thiago> but can we make the decision to have the meeting before 0900 CEST tomorrow? <thiago> I'd like to know if I need to set the alarm * venu (veshivas@nat/digia/x-beursqufdncqwoay) has joined #qt-releases <iieklund> I'll let Jani to invite in case we don't find blockers right away <thiago> if the CI does not integrate in the next 18 hours, the meeting is cancelled, ok? <iieklund> there is no point to have the mtg if we find blockers during the day <iieklund> yes <iieklund> thiago: yes <iieklund> ok, next <iieklund> * Missing examples <iieklund> kakoehne: ^ <kkoehne> Yeah, well, we're missign qtwebkit-examples in creator :) <kkoehne> My guess is that it's because of a fix in qtwebkit-examples that's not yet integrated in qt5.git <kkoehne> (the .pro file is still named qtwebkit-examples-and-demos) <kkoehne> also , e.g. qtserialport examples are still missing . I guess that's related to the missing documentation. <iieklund> the webkit examples were still usable, you just had to manually open the .pro <kkoehne> iieklund: yes. <iieklund> kkoehne: is this assigned to correct people? <kkoehne> iieklund: Don't know, actually. THere's an unspecific task about qtserialport in the docs meta task. <kkoehne> iieklund: I can go through the examples and file more specific bugs tomorrow. <iieklund> kkoehne: ok, I need to ask jani/rafal check this to whom this belongs <iieklund> kkoehne: thanks <iieklund> next * Open errors from https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-30688 <iieklund> QTBUG-31016 <iieklund> QtMultimedia: examples/multimediawidgets/customvideosurface/customvideoitem crashes on Linux, Windows <iieklund> fkleint: ? <fkleint> iiekllund: Ye,s not sure how relevant this is <iieklund> it was marked as P2 ? <fkleint> iiekllund: could be a long-standing issue <iieklund> ok...priority valid? <fkleint> I guess so, yes <iieklund> ok, thanks <iieklund> QTBUG-30173 <fkleint> I hope multimedia folks can check it <fkleint> soonish <iieklund> ah the QTBUG-30173 was meta task for docs <iieklund> there are some doc fixes pending in ci <iieklund> so need to check this tomorrow if we get new packages <iieklund> QTBUG-30660, opening the device options panel twices crashes on qt5/mac <ZapB> sorry guys - got to run to another meeting. I'll catch up from minutes email <iieklund> ZapB: ok, thanks <iieklund> guess the QTBUG-30660 is still valid <iieklund> QTBUG-30786, QWidget:create(WId window, ...) broken for OSX (regression) <iieklund> this is marked as critical, but there is comment: "Qt Mac Extras should be the way to go in this case." <iieklund> would anshaw know about this? * thiago needs to run too <iieklund> thiago: ok, thanks for joining <anshaw> iieklund: no idea on the face of it at least <iieklund> anshaw: ok, thanks <iieklund> QTBUG-30923 <iieklund> there exists a fix for this but not integrated: https://codereview.qt-project.org/#change,55036 <fkleint> needs review by the GraphicsView experts <iieklund> ok <iieklund> QTBUG-30661, QDialog sizing and drawing issues <iieklund> this one looks annoying <fkleint> As I said, Mac bugs, there is a ton more of these issues, delayed by the CI failure <fkleint> probably <iieklund> yes <iieklund> QTBUG-30979, Cannot Build Embedded Dialogs Example <iieklund> seems to be fixed in latest installers <fkleint> that is strange, looks like misconf of Cerator <fkleint> yes <iieklund> has anybody else confirmed that? <fkleint> I could build it on the cmd line <iieklund> can this be closed? <fkleint> but did not find in the examplkes page of Creator <fkleint> due to the mess of local Qt versions we have . <fkleint> I would guess so, yes <iieklund> ok <iieklund> QTBUG-30822, Not able to build application with VS2012 IDE <fkleint> Not relevant..use Creator <iieklund> ok :) <kkoehne> fkleint: :) <fkleint> or VS integration <fkleint> but looks complicated <iieklund> QTBUG-30212, "Change packaged MinGW to x32-4.8.0-release-win32-dwarf-rev2.7z" -> update will happen after beta1 <iieklund> those were all the bugs in meta task list <iieklund> at the moment <iieklund> ok, any other items in mind? <iieklund> if not let's see if we get packages in good shape tomorrow <iieklund> I will inform if/when new packages are available for testing <fkleint> yep <iieklund> if we have a happy day scenario jani will invide a mtg for this wed <iieklund> in other case it will be next monday? the same time? <fkleint> ok <kkoehne> iieklund: Sounds good. <iieklund> ok, thanks for everybody <iieklund> bye <kkoehne> bye
