Ok. Some aspects of the freedom of religion are subtle and complicated. 
Compelling participation in the pledge of allegiance and retaliating for 
non-participation are not in that category. And yet, both a biology teacher and 
assistant principal harassed a student in Montgomery County, Maryland (a 
first-ring suburban county of Washington DC!). How can a teacher and an 
assistant principal in a school where they are requiring the students to say 
the pledge not know the law? It has been a clear, bright line for 70 years!
