Egyptian Folklore: Linking Ancient and Modern 1 May-9 July 2007 Cost: $199 Instructor: Nicole B. Hansen
Conducted in five units over ten weeks, this online Egyptology course uncovers the mysteries of folk medicine, religion, and magic, as well as the rich traditions of daily life that historically shaped Egyptian culture. Topics will range from holidays and celebrations to folktales and proverbs, music and dance, and the foods, folk architecture, dress, and agricultural traditions of everyday life. The connections between ancient and modern Egypt will also be explored. This course was originally taught in 1999 through the Oriental Institute and attracted a record number of participants from around the globe. Some of the highlights of this updated version of the course is that it will feature some of Nicole Hansen's more recent research and an exclusive sneak preview of the soon to be published book, Omm Sety's _Living Egypt: Surviving Folkways from Ancient Times_.
