First get a station manual - you will need it for the module info and the backplane info. Then, if you don't have a line driver card you need to add a jumper... on the lower left (when looking at it from the rear) of the backplane board, where the 30 receiver interconnect board pins come through, jump pin 6 to 14 with a wire. This allows the preamp audio from the receivers audio/squelch board to be fed into the local volume control to provide amplified receiver audio to drive a local speaker. If the audio is too hot and the action of the control seems all on the lower end you can add a resistor in series with the 6-to-14 jumper to limit the audio to the local speaker. As to speakers, I personally would mount a mobile speaker or two into the cabinet - one for every RX... If you have a metering panel you might have a speaker in it - I've seen panels with and without speakers.
