A few thing you need to think about for a new 900 MHZ system. the pair you
are going to use. 12 or 25 meg? We are installing 3 new 902 repeaters on
Metro-Comm. We are going with 25 meg. The next thing you need to thing about
is 5 kz or 2.5 kz. As most all the Maxtrac's, Spectra's and GTX mobiles made
by Motorola for 900 are 2.5 we are going with 2.5 on the repeaters. Or we
would have to have every user convert his radio to wide band 5 KZ. Now I
don't know about duplexing a Spectra but I do now that folks have used two
Maxtrac mobiles. I also have seen folks bring an 800 Maxtrac up from 800 to
902 for the receive side of a repeater and bring down a 935 Maxtrac for the
transmitter side of a repeater. Some off the shelf Stuff (repeaters)for 900
are Kenwood, Hamtronics and Master II. You can find this stuff pre-owned. Or
Kenwood or Hamtronics you can buy new. We are having fun with the 900 MHz
stuff. It is a fun band so far.
Lots of stuff to watch out for. Like your users will find things like coax.
A lot of coax is only good to 512 MHZ. Same with mobile mounts. Need to be
good to 1000 plus MHZ.
Good luck on 902!
