David, Save yourself a lot of time and effort, and simply use a high-quality crimp-on bulkhead connector. That eliminates the troublesome hood and the inevitable impedance bump. Such connectors are available in UHF, mini-UHF, BNC, TNC, and N connectors, to name a few.
For extending the MICOR front-end preselector to the back of the unified chassis (the route of the original input cable) use RG-400 or RG-142 double-shielded coax, with a low-loss RCA plug on one end and a N female bulkhead connector on the other end.
