To my knowledge, there are no significant differences between the Low
Band and High Band Base/Repeater Stations. Of course, the UHF is a
little different in the way the transmitter is laid out with the
additional circuitry of the tripler, antenna network, and all, but even
then the Backplane Board is the same between them. There were many
different types of stations built and this generalization certainly
doesn't cover all of the possibilities. The most illusive Micor seems
to be the ones that were built for the Federal Government for use within
the FBI, Secret Service, etc. These stations are becoming available on
the used/surplus market. Eric Lemmon has offered information on their
conversion as well as Scott Zimmerman and I recently built a repeater
for one of my better sites using a DVP/Securenet Micor Station. While
the vintage of DVP equipment we worked with seems different from the
ones Eric is familiar with, just about any can be taken back to a plain
unencrypted voice radio and be made into a quality repeater.

With all that being said, it certainly is better to start with the
correct band/split radio to start with.
