Let me ask you a question.  In the last 30 years what RF technology has 
evolved that makes any newer radio any better than a Micor or Mastr II?  
Transmitters still have to transmit, and since FM isn't a problem in a 
Micor or Mastr II, I see no advantage to anything newer.  You can put a 
GaAs or HEMT FET ahead of any Micor and make it as sensitive as any 
modern radio, plus, if you don't need the added sensitivity, you can 
drop back to a radio that still provides good sensitivity (-116 dBm) 
that isn't easily overloaded by adjacent RF. 

While I'm not saying we shouldn't explore 220 on different (newer) radio 
sets, it shouldn't be done because the Micor is old.  Our 
(Repeater-Builder) Micor 220 conversions will blow away any commercial 
220 radio I have ever tested, and the Mastr II isn't far behind.
