I have a piece of the same RG-9/U around somewhere too.  It's 100% copper, 
no silver plating at all.

As you say, it will work so long as it's kept in an indoor 
environment.  Unfortunately mine has some signs of weather so I consider it 
unusable for duplex transmission lines.

I also have some RG-55/U as well.  Its shield appears to be double-shielded 
tin-plated copper (not 100% sure due to the age), in which case the same 
cautions apply as for RG-9.
