Bob,
DC through blue light is popular in my area <grin>... I live just South of
Washington DC. We have probably the highest per-capita density of hams in
the nation. You should be around for a VHF and above contest weekend...
tough to find a spot operate!! Check this
out..<http://www.vanityhq.com/maps/enterzip.html > plug in 22556 for a zip,
and zoom out.

I really wanted a 500kHz split so that I could use the heliax-duplexer
approach.. doggone REAL duplexer for 6m is pretty pricey. It also served
as a good learning experience. There are a few pairs available.. but most
are odd-ball splits etc... 2m pairs are non-existent, and 70cm pairs are
extremely rare as well. 222MHz machines are popping-up all over the place.
Many have expressed intrest in the 1200MHz D-Star gear, but it is
cost-prohibitive at this point. One of the reasons I asked BobM about his
900MHz conversions....

Sounds as if you actually had trouble finding a clear 6 meter pair. Here
in SoCal we have many vacant pairs on 6; is 6 really that popular in your
area?
