I guess I have to say that I have learned not to play games with
antennas. I am try to save whatever money I need and make sure that I
only have to do the antenna once. I've had a few times I had to spend
more than the ham grade antenna was worth to fix something that went
wrong on it (by that time I could have spent the 500-800 dollars for a
decent commercial antenna. DB products (Andrews), RFS, ... great stuff!
Diamond ... ok if you can get to it, Hustler is almost horrible (G6/G7
experience only), and you couldn't pay me enough to take and use a Cush
Craft anything.
P.S. - I remember on my G7 following the MFR instructions for coating
it with a clear enamel after it was tuned ... maybe all that was good
for was to keep the cheap aluminum from corroding).

I disagree...
Like
any other cheap solution, with the proper care (replace ground plane
radials with solid rod, heat shrink the joints and top) the Hustler G
series will work fine in Full Duplex Applications. I have some that
have been up for over 10 years and are still doing fine....

Joe,
I always found that the G6, and G7 had high desense when used in a
FDX application. Also, the overall thin aluminum design of these things
keeps me from putting them on a tower where I can't easily get to
them. Lastly, the radials on my G7 never seemed to stay in one spot
(the ends of them crushed down over time under the mounting plate).
The cheapest thing I have used on my 2 meter repeater stuff now is a
Diamond that was silver soldered at every joint.
