There's no reason why a particular piece of equipment can't be used in both capacities at the same time. Consider a 440 repeater, with an attached 2m "remote base" (remotely-controlled station). The UHF repeater receiver operates as both the repeater receiver and the auxiliary control link receiver for the remotely-controlled station concurrently. --- Jeff
