Don, Your point is a good one.
Often, due to silver's reaction to the air, they become blackened. Some see this as a bad connector. The seller, as in your case, thinks the same. Those who know see it as evidence one is getting one of the best. I have seen the cheap, in price and quality, barrel connectors have 3 db loss at UHF. Half the power in a 3 inch barrel. Most RS and other 10/$10 PL259s are good for 10-80 (probably made for 11) work well, but when it comes to 6 and above good connectors are a must. Now when you start talking about repeaters and good feedline a $30 connector is cheap (inexpensive), but a must. 73, ron, n9ee/r >From: ka9qjg <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Date: 2008/04/20 Sun AM 12:33:41 CDT >To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com >Subject: RE: [Repeater-Builder] Bad adapter > > > > Iuse to Buy the Cheap Nice shinyConnectors at Places like Radio shack and > hamfest , ThenI started putting Repeaters together 220 and 440 , And > Playing with 900Mhz that’s whenI found out that Cheap connectors are Crap … > >So the next time I went to a Hamfest a Guyhad some Boxes of Nice Shiny >Gold/Silver looking Connectors Cheap , Then I noticed a box of old Amphenol >,New but Tarnished Silver Connectors and I ask How much You wantfor the Old >looking ones , He said Heck if You want the old ones You can have the whole >Boxfor $ 10.00 , I gave him the $10.00dollars and I grabbed the Box Full >and never looked back USE Good Connectors or You will pay forit later. > >PS I Also have seen People who would Still stand there knowing theywere >getting a Great deal and still try and get the Person to sell cheaper , HaHa > >Don KA9QJG > > > > Ron Wright, N9EE 727-376-6575 MICRO COMPUTER CONCEPTS Owner 146.64 repeater Tampa Bay, FL No tone, all are welcome.
